Flame Tests β€” Identifying Metal Ions

FLAME TESTS identify metal ions by the characteristic colour they produce when heated in a flame.
METHOD:
1. Clean a nichrome wire loop with hydrochloric acid and hold in a blue Bunsen flame until no colour is imparted.
2. Dip the clean loop into the sample (solution or solid).
3. Hold the loop in the edge of the blue flame.
4. Observe the flame colour.
